What is ASC program?

-         ASC is an after-school Chinese program catering for the increasing demand of learning Chinese language in primary schools.

-         A range of cultural activities such as art, handcraft, singing, dancing and the introduction of some important Chinese traditional festivals and custom will be integrated into Chinese learning experience, ensuring a high quality of care where children learn and grow whilst having fun.

 

 

What are students expected to achieve in this program?

-         Greet people and introduce themselves in Chinese

-         Count number from 1 to 1000 in Chinese

-         Identify some animals, colors and food in Chinese

-         Identify objects in surrounding environment in Chinese

-         Understand Chinese culture and traditions through hands-on activities

 

 

What is the timetable of the program?

-         It can be once a week (2 hours each session) or twice a week (1.5 hour each session) depending on your school’s decision.

 

 

What is the size of a class?

-         The minimum number of students in a class is 10.

-         Each class is maintained under 25 students.

-         Students without Chinese backgrounds could be placed in an individual class.

 

Who are the teachers of the program?

-         Friendly and fully qualified teachers holding LOTE certificates and VIT registration from Xin Jin Shan with First Aid Certificate and WWCC.

-         Experienced in classroom management

-         Fluent in Chinese and English

 

 

What is the teaching methodology of the class?

-         Integrating language learning with culture understanding and experience

-         Student-centered and customer-tailed curriculum

 

 

What are some examples of culture activities?

-         Chinese paper cutting

-         Chinese clay sculpture

-         Chinese calligraphy

-         Chinese traditional painting

-         Chinese traditional dancing

-         Chinese paper lantern craft

-         Chinese knot making

-         Traditional Chinese food making such as Spring roll, Rice ball, Zongzi, Moon-cake and Red-egg (for demonstration only).

 

 

What is the payment?

-         $100 per term (including tuition fee, material fee, public liability cost)

-         Payment made by term in advance.

    Getting started: Registering
Question: Can I complete any forms online?
Answer:  For Government regulatory compliance you need to sign and date the Registration form.  Online enrolments are currently unavailable. However, you can download it from http://www.xjs.vic.edu.au/html/studentworks/view_183.html you can then fill it out and give it to us.
 
    Payment
Question: How do I make the payment?
Answer: According to the policy all fees have to be paid by term in advance. Our staff will collect it in first 2 weeks every term. Invoices may be given to you after 7 days. Drop in students can make the payment and give it to the teacher, but invoice will be given to you 14 days later.
 
   Staffing
Question: Are your staff qualified?
Answer: All staff have a current National Working With Children Check, some have VIT registration. All staff also hold Level 2 First Aid, some have Asthma Management and Anaphylaxis Training certificates and are qualified under the Children’s Services Regulations, 2009. 
 
Question: Do you have consistent staff at after school Chinese program?
Answer: One team leader (or two at some campuses) is allocated to each After School Chinese Program to ensure consistency in staff.  We also have assistants that are rostered on consistent days during the school term. Although we endeavour to keep it as stable as possible for children, we ask for your understanding in case of staff illness and absence, where there will be a need to roster different staff. All staff are briefed before they work at each campus to ensure the best care for your child.      
 
    Programming
Question: What will my child be doing at After School Chinese Program?
Answer: After school Chinese program provides an opportunity for children to learn basic Chinese speaking, listening, reading and writing and children will participate in a range of different activities. Each term a tailored and structured term plan is carefully prepared for after school Chinese program. 
 
It may includes these activities in different term
Chinese traditional culture activities like Traditional Chinese paper cutting, Chinese clay sculpture, Chinese calligraphy, Traditional Chinese painting, Chinese traditional dancing, Chinese paper lantern craft, Chinese knot making, Dumpling making, Spring roll making, Rice ball making, Zongzi making, Moon-cake making and Red-egg making.
 
Question: Do you provide food for after school Chinese program?
Answer: For safety reason, after school Chinese program does not provide any foods to children. All food made in cooking class will extremely prohibited to having it in the classroom, but children can bring them to home and having it with parents’ permission. 
 
We strongly recommend that you prepare some snakes and water to your children, since they may hungry after school.
